Five Elements Spirit Perspective

Spirit of the Point

Yin is Yin and Gu is valley. As Water within the Water, it is a cool, tranquil place after a person has been exhausted and shaken. Its name calls to mind a quiet, cool and shady spot, ideal for resting and looking deeply within. One of Water's qualities is the image of a still, clear lake that mirrors reality exactly as it is, without any spin. It quiets raging seas and fluids boiling over, removes intense heat, and rejuvenates Water so it sparkles once more. A gathering of Yin energy and quietness, it moistens and lubricates, helps the person store and fill, and offers deep restfulness to someone overactive and depleted who needs filling from a deep pool.

Worsley

Creates the marrow of our being.

Location: With the knee a little bent, at the inner end of the crease behind the knee, between the semitendinosus and semimembranosus tendons.
Needle depth: 4 fen
Moxa: 3 cones

When to Consider
  • After a person has been exhausted and shaken
  • When the patient with a Water imbalance is swamped by fears and anxieties and out of control, the mind like turbulent water and the spirit seemingly overwhelmed; this point brings back the calm
  • When a person needs rest and recharge
  • When the seas are raging or fluids are boiling over
  • When dirt is trapped in the body, mind and spirit
  • When a stuck Official needs a powerful shake
  • For long, heavy depressions
  • To stop frantic spiraling in its tracks; the effect of treatment can hold for a whole year
  • When sleep needs regulating
  • When there is too much heat on any level, including pollution of the mind and feeling bothered
Notes
  • Water point, Sea point and Horary point of the Kidney: most powerful at its Horary time, 5 to 7 pm, and in Winter, the Water season
  • Used at the Horary time, it clears and cleanses the debris that has built up in and on the Water, so that the true state of this element in the patient can be seen and felt on the pulse
  • Revitalizes the secretions
